Sustainable
Drainage Systems (SuDS)
Modern drainage systems in harmony with natural water processes.
Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) is a specialist discipline within Civil Engineering stormwater design. SuDS design is the biomimicry of natural processes of ground infiltration, aquifer recharge, flood water mitigation and pollutant reduction. SuDS are a vital step in regenerating urban water environments, a United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal in line with the Paris Agreement.
PWCE offers expert design advice at multiple levels. We offer an advisory service at concept level, to assist Clients and Architects in making appropriate decisions on how to effectively integrate SuDS systems into their landscaping and infrastructure form. We also offer in-depth analysis as part of an interdisciplinary civil engineering design and/or Stormwater Management Plan design service from project inception to close out.
Projects include:
Using SuDS structures to control run-off at source, on sites, to harvest, treat and attenuate flows, in order to mitigate against the impacts of downstream pollution and flooding.
Examples include:
- Rainwater tanks
- Wet and dry ponds
- Bio-retention ponds
- Permeable paving
- Wetlands
- Infiltration basins
